In the fashion industry, it’s almost inevitable to find overly skinny models fronting the campaigns for high end stores and designers, but recently, high street store Topshop were accused of providing images of a possibly anorexic model called Codie for some of their recent collection campaigns. The image (seen below) that shows the model in a belted style dress, was recently removed after several complaints suggesting that the brand were setting an unhealthy example for young girls, even though Topshop recently insisted that Codie was a healthy UK size 8.

After the image was removed, Codie took to her personal blog to explain that she was ‘naturally skinny’ and that she ‘loves food’.
“Throughout my entire childhood I was called anorexic and people would ask if I was bulimic. You know what, some people are just naturally skinny and even if I tried to put on weight it wouldn’t matter, because it doesn’t matter what I eat, I don’t put it on.”
Spokesman Andrew Leahy recently told the Daily Mail: “Topshop is confident that Codie is a healthy young woman and we do not feel it necessary to remove her from our imagery. The clothes she is wearing are a sample size ten so in some instances they may look a little looser than normal. Topshop only retails size four within our Petite range which aimed at women who are proportionately smaller at 5ft 2in or under. Topshop is proud of its heritage of celebrating individual-looking girls who offer an alternative more unusual beauty.”
Following the complaints, the image concerned has now been replaced with another campaign shot of Codie.
Do you think Codie is too skinny for the campaign? Send us your opinions.
