Women love to buy shoes! They want to wear fabulous shoes to feel sexy and feminine.
A perfect shoe is one that fits properly and that flatters your feet. This means that it is comfortable, stays on your foot as well as being uber trendy. Whilst shoes are everywhere, have you ever thought about what goes into designing a shoe?
For smaller feet, the wearer is likely to be shorter and so smaller shoes can get away with being higher heeled and having large points at the front.
For large size womens shoes the design needs to be tweaked to ensure that feet appear much smaller, sexy and feminine. This includes:
1) Making the toe shape more rounded rather than pointed, to reduce the emphasis of the size of the foot.
2) Positioning stitching lines to best flatter the foot. Horizontal rather than vertical stitching lines across the front of a shoe breaks up its size and even the distance between horizontal stitches can also affect the appearance – why not see for yourself by drawing a simplistic diagram of the front of the shoe and putting a horizontal line close to the tip and one further down? The one further down makes the shoe appear smaller and more dainty.
3) Choice of colour. Just like when you wear black to make you look slimmer, large feet need deeper, bolder colours to make them appear slimmer and smaller. White and pale colours need to be used minimally as they tend to emphasise size.
So next time you want to look fabulous and buy some shoes, remind yourself of what goes on behind the scenes.
